As a coach you may, at times, be asked to serve as “Switzerland”, or solve organizational problems that aren’t delt effectively or openly addressed by managers.
Sharing a short case here: What if…. the manager and HR are telling you all that is wrong and should be “corrected” with an employee yet, when you meet that person (your new coachee), not only he/she are 180⁰ from what you were told, but their version of the story is probably the “correct” one?
I have no moral or ethical dilemma here. The employee is my coachee! He/she deserve that I will come open, a clean-slate, to fully listen and work with what they are bringing.
A coach isn’t the cure for toxic working environment or fixing what’s broken. A coach is building, developing and growing others as they become the better version of themselves.
